Being One

Being one, being alone
Fitting in too much,
But standing out more.

In a sea of those.
Who only see you
As your shoes and clothes.

Where you are from
Matters much less
Than what you’ll wear to prom

The decision to look pretty
May seem better
Than becoming a little witty

The rumors and gossip
Could define you
Shutting your voice in a pocket

Sometimes when you are put down,
No one will help you up,
Alone, you’ll have to get around.
