A Tale Told

Unwrinkled paper, blank

a sheet of white

like a layer of fresh new snow,

waiting

for a tale to tell

whether it be by footprints

or by charcoal marks.

A tale of heroes

saving the world from

caped villains in shadows

on the ocean

drowning

and on land

stumbling.

A tale of loss

a soul mate gone

and a friend in search

a mother

crying

a family

devastated.

A tale of nature

gentle breeze blowing

trees swaying

a hawk

soaring

a buttercup

blooming.

A tale of victory

revelry and rapture

high-fives and hugs

a team

cheering

a winner

beaming.

Smudged paper, lined,

a sheet of words,

like an age-old stone

engulfing

a tale to be told

by the imprinted layers of chapters

or by the blotches of ink.
